It's not just dogs that want to snack, velvet paws also love a little treat between meals. But while dogs bite into a whole host of different chews and enjoy them immensely, it is much more difficult to find the right treat for cats. This is because they want to be spoilt and are not satisfied with just any treat that is offered. However, once you have found the right treat for your cat, even the proudest tiger will be happy to learn tricks such as sit or fetch toys. The incentive just has to be right.
Experience shows that some treats for dogs are also very popular with cats. We would like to show you a few examples below.

Healthy cat treats for „advanced treat eaters“ (Cats used to chewing harder treats)
Various factors play a role in our snacks for "advanced" cats. Does the cat already know slightly larger cat snacks? Do they like the protein source, e.g. fish? Do they like to take the time to chew their "prey"?
Canis Plus® Sprats
As a valuable, highly digestible source of protein that provides minerals, trace elements and omega-3 fatty acids, the Sprats are a healthy cat snack. Therefore, you can feed healthy and reward your cat at the same time.
Canis Plus® Goldband Selar
The gently air-dried Goldband Selar is a type of mackerel and is particularly lean. It enriches the diet with good, unsaturated fatty acids and is easy to digest. The thin pieces are also easy to cut into smaller pieces.
When you feed your cat a cat treat for the first time, stay with your cat and observe how the cat handles the snack. The handling of harder snacks must first be learnt. Depending on the size of the snack, the daily amount of food should be adjusted. The cat should always have access to fresh water. If you notice that the cat is trying to swallow a larger piece of the snack, remove it and feed the cat smaller treats that it cannot choke on.
More ideas for healthy cat treats:
For some very BARF-experienced/enthusiastic cats, larger chews such as chicken or duck necks also are accepted very well. Whether this is also the case with your own cat, however, would have to be tested.
Canis Plus® Chicken Fillet Strips
The tender chicken fillet, in air-dried form, is popular with four-legged gourmets and is also highly digestible.
Canis Plus® Chicken Necks
The 100% natural chicken necks are a wonderfully crispy and healthy chewy snack.
Canis Plus® Duck Necks
The 100% natural duck necks are a sophisticated, crunchy and healthy chewy snack and are significantly larger than the chicken necks.
Canis Plus® Dried Rabbit Ears with Fur
The popular, crunchy dried rabbit ears with their short, smooth fur are very popular with cats as they are not quite as hard as strips of beef fur, for example, but still need to be chewed thoroughly. The fur can help to clean teeth and also "clean out" the gastrointestinal tract.
Further information and frequently asked questions (FAQ) about healthy treats for cats
Treats are healthy for your cat if they do not contain any synthetic additives or hidden sugars and you use them in moderation. This means you should always pay attention to how many treats your cat gets per day to avoid possible obesity.
Treats often consist of pure meat, sometimes with fat on it, and because cats are meat and fat lovers, they like to eat them. In addition, many cats associate treats with attention or playtime with their humans, which both enjoy.
Cats can be given a variety of snacks, which has a lot to do with the cat's preferences and the snacks it has already been introduced to. Many cats like poultry or fish snacks. It is always important that snacks are 100% natural and contain no hidden flavourings, colourings or preservatives.
If you prepare your cat's meals yourself, your cat will also need about 5% fibre in its daily diet. In our Guide "First Steps to BARF for Cats", we show you how you can calculate the BARF ration for your cat and also which vegetable supplements you can add to BARF.
As most treats for cats are dry snacks, you should generally be sparing with them. As a former desert animal, cats should always consume fluids via "their prey" so that their organs are spared. However, if you want to feed a small snack, such as our Felins Plus® Chicken Mousse, as a special cat treat, then that´s perfectly fine. On such days, however, you should reduce the amount of main food slightly.
