The time that we spend with our dogs is something incredibly valuable. Of course, this also includes the hours we spend together indoors at home, but above all it is the hours we spend with our dogs outdoors with nature. Every outing can be an adventure, there is always something new to discover and new experiences to be had, even on a routine evening walk. The dog shows us a world that was previously unseen, we perceive nature more intensely, pay more attention to the details and find peace in a shared and very personal rhythm.
The long road from young dog to senior
Dogs have been on their four paws from birth. Clumsy at first, getting to know their body, learning to leap, jump and run, sometimes not without painful incidents. As a young dog, add a portion of exuberance to this and situations can arise in which the musculoskeletal system is overloaded.
Natural and gentle support is particularly valuable as it does not interfere deeply with their metabolism, but only provides the body with natural nutrients that can it help to heal itself. As the dog slowly gets older, other factors come into play that challenge the musculoskeletal system, as it is subject to wear and tear, natural support should be chosen to help in this situation.
If you notice that your dog shows abnormalities in movement, such as less enjoyment of exercise or problems getting up, you can support their musculoskeletal system or joints by feeding Canis Extra Green-lipped Mussel Powder or Canis Extra Organic Rosehip Powder. For the dog that needs additional help, our herbal mixture Canis Extra Gelenkvital contains not only green-lipped mussel, but also other herbs that promote bone and joint metabolism.

Canis Extra Green-lipped Mussel Powder
Supplies joints and cartilage with important nutrients, makes them elastic and thus promotes healthy mobility. Green-lipped mussels are rich in glycosaminoglycans (GAGs for short), omega-3 fatty acids, minerals and amino acids. These nourish connective tissues and joints and can have a regulating effect on numerous joint complaints.
Canis Extra Organic Rosehip Powder
The high content of vitamin C, carotenoids and antioxidants helps to protect against free radicals, thus supporting the joints.
Canis Extra Gelenkvital
Canis Extra Gelenkvital is a feed supplement that provides nutritional support for joints, cartilage, ligaments and tendons, helping to keep them healthy.
Oils for healthy bones and joints
In addition to our natural supplements for bones and joints, which we offer in powder form for dogs, there are also high-quality oils that promote a healthy musculoskeletal system.
Canis Extra Salmon Oil, Canis Extra 3-6-9 Fish and Hemp Barf Oil
Salmon Oil and our 3-6-9 Fish and Hemp Barf Oil promote healthy joints, support the body's defences and ensure a shiny coat and healthy skin. While Canis Extra Krill Oil can increase stamina and concentration, boost performance and strength, stabilise cardiovascular function and reduce signs of stress and ageing.
Canis Extra Krill Oil
Krill Oil has anti-inflammatory and immune-boosting properties and is therefore suitable for dogs suffering from chronic inflammation. These include arthritis and arthrosis as painful joint diseases that lead to restricted mobility.
Calcium supplement for strong, healthy bones
Calcium is probably the most abundant mineral in a dog's body and the need for calcium is highest when bones and teeth are being formed i.e. during the dog's growth phase. However, calcium is not only essential for the formation of healthy bones and teeth, it also plays a decisive role in blood clotting, the transmission of nerve impulses and muscle contraction. It can also play a very decisive role in feeding, because if dogs cannot tolerate bones, they need another natural source of calcium in their food to compensate for the phosphorus contained in meat.
Natural sources of calcium as a bone substitute. Calcified Seaweed (Algae Lime) and Organic Eggshell Powder
With our cold-pressed Canis Plus® Dry Food, as well as our Complete Tinned Meals for puppies and adult dogs, you do not need to supplement any other sources of calcium. However, if you feed your dog on a BARF diet but do not feed bones, you must supplement a natural source of calcium such as our Canis Extra Organic Eggshell Powder or our Calcified Seaweed Powder on a daily basis. Both organic eggshell powder and calcified seaweed are an excellent natural source of calcium for BARF. You can simply choose one of the two or alternate between the two products depending on your individual preference.
As many dogs are becoming more sensitive to bones, we have not used bones in our Canis Plus® pure meat variations. If you prepare your dog's meals yourself and use our pure meat varieties, you will need to add a source of calcium such as our organic eggshell powder or our calcified seaweed.
